My uncle has a farm by the South Downs. It is in a beautiful location, nestled in the base of the hills. Visiting the farm from childhood has instilled in me my great love of the Sussex countryside - the beautiful gentle rolling green hills, expansive skies and lush fields. One of my ever lasting memories is of the mud, lovely sticky mud. In this painting, I’ve tried to capture the time when the fields have been ploughed in November ready for planting in the spring. It’s a wintery day with a storm looming over a turned field with hints of frost glistening on the frozen soil.
